Folding Ideas | Dan Olson makes long video essays where he explores internet culture phenomenons like Flat Earthers, Decentraland, Wallstreetbets and Cryptocurrencies. One of the most intelligent people on Youtube. |
Alice Cappelle | A French-Belgian video essayist who explores modern societal issues, often from a philosophical perspective. Anti-capitalist and feminist topics regularly feature. She is an incredibly smart person and her videos often make me reconsider my pre-existing beliefs |
Hbomberguy | Hardly any need to introduce Harris after his viral hit on Youtube plagiarism. His spirit of diving into trivial topics and accidentally stumbling upon controversial stuff is my favorite kind of investigative journalism. |
Defunctland | How to you elevate videos about decomissioned theme park rides to art? By putting your heart, soul and personality into it like Kevin Perjurer. I consider his work to be some of the highest quality stuff you can find on Youtube. |
Little Chinese Everywhere | Yan is my favorite travel blogger by far. She has a great personality and her current long running season where she literally explores every corner of China is so fascinating. Being a native Chinese she is able to get closer to the people and the culture than a western travel blogger every could. Also, beautiful drone shots! |
Indigo Traveller | While some people consider his content disaster tourism, I think he provides relevant, insightful content on places in the world that most people, including journalists, dare not visit. |
Jonac Ceika CCK Philosophy | Philosophical essay channel with an emphasis on socialist and communist content. He is able to explain complex philosophical concepts in a very accessible manner. |
Second Thought | J.T. Chapman's essays can be a bit melancholic at times, but I think are eye opening introductions for people who are seeking an alternative to capitalism. |
More Perfect Union | Another great initiative to promote anti-capitalist ways of thinking. Emphasis on the importance of unions, but talks about many other topics as well |
Modern MBA | This is probably the channel I have watched the most in the past year. I did not know watching videos about business strategies could be so damn interesting. |
Moon Channel | A relatively new Youtuber but he already has quite a following. He looks at pop culture phemonenons from juridical perspective, talks about intellectual property rights as well as other topics. He is still a bit rough around the edges but his recent video on who owns Pokemon was very interesting. |
Red Letter Media | One of the oldest Youtube channels in this list. I have been following them for over ten years and love their Half in the Bag series where Mike and Jay review films they watched. Never change guys! |
Accented Cinema | Interesting video essays, usually about films, from a refreshing asian perspective. |
Barely Sociable | I don't care too much for creepy Youtube, but I make an exception for Barely Sociale as he does not just cover the topics he talks about, but also investigates them and often digs up new information on existing cases, making his work investigative rather than exploitative like most of the true crime genre |
Masaman | Masaman is one of those things that could only happen on Youtube. Mason has somewhat of an obsessive interest with race, ethnicity and haplogroups. I don't know how scientifically proven his findings are, but fascinating stuff nonetheless |
Takagi Railway | Going into niche territory here, but if you are like me and want to learn more about Japanese railways, you will know how hard it is to find English language content. Takagi Railways is a life saver because most of their videos include English subtitles! |
Comprehensible Japanese | Yuki-sensei's video's are a great way to learn the Japanese language. I found the comprehensible method to be most suitable for picking up new vocabulary |
Arkibk Train Aki | Speaking of niche, this channel contains lots of Japanese train cab videos for you to enjoy the scenery or just doze off to. There are several channels like this but this one is my favorite as it displays station names and doesn't cut out the time when the train is standing still at the station, giving you the most natural experience. Also, most videos have 4KHD quality |
