Hall of MIDIs
It's official, MIDIs are cool again. You can easily find MIDI files on the internet as well as on archived fan sites. They have been preserved fairly well because of their tiny file sizes. Most MIDIs are fan made and there was a very lively scene of people sequencing existing music into MIDI files. There were also plenty of people making original music in the MIDI format. This was a time before MP3 files existed and even if they did, hard disk drives did not have the capacity to store hundreds of files of 5MB each. Because of their small size it was possible to anyone with an internet collection to exchange and collect MIDI files. I appreciate how technological limitations sometimes create a distinct style and sounds, like how all eighties music has this distinct sound because of the limited possibilities of electronic keyboards back then, or the distinct style of SNES games due to the limitations of 32-Bit consoles. MIDI fall into this category as well. Like eighties music, it may not be everyones cup of tea but I enjoy the cozyness of the format. Anyway, MIDIs are cool again so check out my collection below if you want to get into it.
