Old Net Stories is where I write about interesting and forgotten places of the old internet. It began in 2024 when I started visiting archived Geocities pages on conservation projects like Oocities. The earliest Geocities pages are 30 years old by now and often I feel like I am stepping into a time capsule. I needed somewhere to share the interesting places I found and decided to start writing stories about them. Old Net Stories is a way for me to combine my passion for history, investigative journalism and the retro internet in one place. However I want to make it clear that my writings are stories and I am neither a historian nor a journalist. Old Net Stories is a passion project. I write without a profit motive in mind and I will never run ads. Writing and researching these stories does take a lot of time so if you appreciate what I do here, feel free to make a donation. In case you wonder why so many stories involve east Asian people and topics, that is partially because I am currently navigating the Tokyo neighborhood of Geocities and partially because east Asian cultures are a personal interest of mine. I plan on moving to other Geocities Neigbourhoods in the future.
I hope people enjoy reading these stories and I love to hear your feedback! I am just one individual writing them and if I got something wrong, do not hesitate to let me know! My e-mail is dmansweb@proton.me
