Collections

Welcome to my newly made collections page! In the web 1.0 era offering people internet freebies like desktop wallpapers, screensaver and ico files were common practice. This was especially the case for companies targeting children. Recently I'm getting the hang of excavating these internet freebies. Some files like wallpapers and ico files are easier to obtain than other. Screensavers files are often .exe files which can not be handled by our modern 64bit computers. I found this handy tool though, a program called Winevdm that enables you to run and extract 16bit .exe files. So, if you're planning to do your own internet archaeology, this is a must-have tool! Download Winevdm here. Once you downloaded the program, simply drag and drop the .exe file into an application called "otvdm" and it will run the file!
I was able to get my hands on these Betty Boop .ico files and wallpaper tiles using the Winevpm program, for example. Materials are courtesy of This Betty Boop fanpage

Found these cute smokey the bear banners somewhere on geocities.

Imagemaps used to be so pretty. A lot of thought went into making them, like these from the Kellogs website from 1996 and 1998. I might start collecting imagemaps from now on...
