Scene on Radio History/Analysis Produced and hosted by John Biewen at Duke University. Takes a deep dive each season into a core issue that impacts our society. Season 2 "Seeing White" about the history of the concept of a white race was incredibly fascinating.
Cyber Tech Matthew Gault talks to fellow Motherboard writers, or other people from the tech industry about current developments on the internet.
Serial Crime/Investigative Still the king of true-crime podcasts. Later productions such as "Nice White Parents", "Trojan Horse Affair" and "We Were Three" as very well made shows. But the original season about the murder of Hae-Min Lee is still one of the best podcasts ever made.
In the Dark Crime/Investigative In the Dark's second season is probably the second best true-crime show ever made. Excellent investigative journalism podcasts which actually helped to solve the case it was covering.
Things Fell Apart Sociology/Culture Recently started listening to this. Jon Ronson from the BBC explores the origins of today's culture wars.
Underunderstood Culture/Investigative If you need a new safe haven after Reply All, then Underunderstood is a great alternative. The hosts dive deep into sometimes very trivial stuff, sometimes geeky stuff.
Land of the Giants Tech Every season explores the history of one of todays tech giants.
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History History Dan Carlin's unique format needs to be experienced to understand. He is such an engaging storyteller.
History of Japan Podcast History This podcasts has been going on for ages. Every week a new episode about a certain topic in Japanese history is covered. It is recommended to start with the first 20ish episodes to get a broad outline of Japanese history, although the sound quality of those older episodes is not great.
